The Minimum Requirements To Become A Strong Tester
To have the potential to be a strong software tester, you must be able to perform these three actions: Think. Learn. Do.
Think
-
Generate questions.
-
Seek new information.
-
Design experiments (a subset of “Generate questions”).
-
Construct a mental model.
Learn
-
Consume information and either: a) distill something from it, or b) actively decide nothing useful can be distilled from it.
-
Differentiate between what the speaker/writer wants you to think, and what you actually think.
-
Identify why you think what you think.
-
Incorporate that thing you distilled into the other things you know (in other words, update your mental model).
Do
-
Execute experiments.
-
Report results (and other learnings).
-
Ask questions.
